A few days ago I went for a walk, in the sector I-10/2. I saw an area burned completely. The grass was completely burned, but trees managed to survive. It looked like some meteor had hit over there. But how did the trees survive?

Burning the trash is very common in Islamabad. Mostly this action is performed by the garbage disposal people as it is the easiest way to dispose garbage; as a result vegetation is also ruined. I was sure it was done by them. After a few days I went to the same area, to my surprise I saw a bunch of kids setting the grass on fire!

I was very disappointed. Our own people are doing this! I always blamed CDA (Capital Development Authority) and garbage Disposal Company for such activities. The grass that was burnt down that evening was all that grew over the entire rainy season. Vegetation does grow slow in this part of the world, because of small amount of rainfall. Rainy season is the only way.
Returning back to the home I was pondering why do the people do things like that? They were just kids. Why didn’t their parents tell them not to play with fire? The children might actually get heart. Did the parents know what their children do in their pastime? Isn’t there enough smoke in the atmosphere already? Now this area will not be as green, for at least a year! It took much time for me to figure it out that the elder generation, including me, is responsible for this. We burn rubber tires, public property and churches etc as a protest against government. Children see us doing this and they think it’s kind of cool. These kids don’t know what they are doing, but do we?
